| I don't have a midi keyboard at the moment, and i tried to set up my computers qwerty keyboard as a midi in the configure audio device. I tried to add an external device by going under Presonus and selecting Qwerty keyboard, there is two options after its been selected at the bottom. Which is 'Split Channels' & 'Default Instrument Input' I selected the 2nd 'default instrument' one but I cannot get the Presonus to respond to my keyboard inside the Instruments box. I did notice that when i press on the qwerty buttons other things respond to it like the m & s on the track box and some buttons on the top of the interface but not for instruments . I dont know if its possible or what is that I have to do to get it to function.

| Your Qwerty Keyboard editor has to be opened.
Open Mix, on the left side find External, and click on it. External Device column appears. Double-click to the Qwerty Keyboard. Qwet Keyboard appears, and you can use your computer keyboard as MIDI controller, now. |

| so this will allow you to play the keys on the qwerty as notes? Is there a way to shift octaves or what? This sounds interesting (Live can do this as well but it is just a toggle in the GUI last I recalled). Cool if so lol. |

| Exactly, this will allow you to use your computer keyboard as MIDI keyboard, and send MIDI notes.
You can switch octaves by using left/right arrows of your computer keyboard. |

Trust me, I googled and did my researched before I came here to ask for help. The one question that actually suited my situation that I found was the one and only question that was never answered, imagine that, so I can't get no help there. Not to mention I just called Tech Support and after 30mins of waiting a recording tells me to leave my name and number so that they can enter a support ticket for me and respond to me in 1 to 2 business days? RIGHT!!...

Guess what? You were helping me out on the other question about virtual instruments not wanting to record, well u just killed two birds with one stone LOL...
I went in and opened the mix (it is on the right side for me but thanks okay ) and I clicked on external and clicked on the '+' sign by external devices and went under Presonus and selected the qwerty keyboard and added the qwerty keyboard. If i'm being descriptive because I know this question will be asked again and if they are smart like me lol they will look around for answers first.
The thing is that I didn't know as the noob I am that I wasn't suppose to close the qwerty after I selected it & i thought that I was going to be able to use ALL of the keys on my board, but no, you can only use the actual 'QWERTY' keys and a few numbers at the top..

I was a bit flustered to when figuring this out.
Those last 2 pictures are the key! That's what I had to figure out... how to open it within Presence, Mojito, etc.
Now if they'd just enable more keys so we could more easily span 2 octaves at once.
Anyone have a novel idea on this?
Currently, I usually use Presence for my bass guitar so the 1 octave limitation isn't a show stopper. |

Probably one of the first requests I made was that S1 should be two octaves. One is just too limited.
You can't modify the qwerty, so the only way to have real control would be a real controller.
Korg and M-Audio make some very small two octave controllers if you looking to save space and their velocity sensitive. .
Besides, the qwerty is never going to give you any real dynamic control so you end up poking around with each note adjusting velocity and that takes way too long.
I still feel a two octave qwerty is needed for a laptop when you're on vacation for example.
Reason has a 1.5 octave qwerty and even that is an improvement over strictly one octave.
Idea? Sure. Have the 1,2,3,4... row handle black keys (for lower octave, Q,W,E,R,T,Y....White (for lower octave).
Have A,S,D,F.... handle black keys (next octave). Z,X,C,V... White keys, (next octave)
Left/right arrows control up/down octave range. Up/Down arrows control global velocity.
This of course only when the qwerty is on, since the keyboard is otherwise layed out for DAW key commands.
That would work nicely in a pinch. |

| I know right, it's really limited to what you can do with a qwerty. So I got myself an Alesis Q25 usb/midi keyboard controller. It's much better then QWERTY +UI and 2,3,5,6,7 lol...I think those are the only keys available. Anyhow, now that I have the midi controller. I'm trying to learn something else. I recorded some sounds with the midi controller but I don't know how to make multiple tracks, can anyone help me with that?
By tracks I mean, for example. I used the accordian on the midi and created a beat with it, and I am trying to creat other beats to play together for like drums, piano, guitar, bass...know what I mean? I’m not the best teacher by a long shot, but if you drag a new instrument from the browser onto a new area of the arrangement or song area below the track you already created (not over it as that will change the instrument of that track), you should be fine. You’ll see a new track created.
I will tell you there are a ton of people much better at this than me, and there are tutorials right here at the Presonus website, or try here

Good you got a controller as that is the real way to get serious about what you are creating. It’s more expressive to use a real controller that inputs dynamic velocity (for independent volume and timbre of keys) than doodling around with a one octave keyboard. Sounds like you’re off to a good start.
Be patient and have fun. You’re using a DAW that will make creating easier for you, as I see it.
